Trip to Italy: Vicenza Day 1
I decided to take some time off to ease my mind, start over and get some fresh air in an amazing scenery all over Italy. I landed in Bologna and went straight to Vicenza, where I booked my stay through Airbnb.
Overall plan: to travel as much as I can in these 7 days. Travel within the travel, one city a day with two bases: 1. Vicenza, 2. Ravenna or Ferrara. Haven't quite made up my mind yet about the second as I am writing you from my first location in Vicenza.
I didn't know what to expect, still do not but I already got a lot out of this trip I probably have not planned for such as the accommodation itself. I wanted something simple and that's exactly what I got - not an issue. The issue is that walls are paper thin and I have quite a few neighbours. The couple from Argentina let me in the apartment as the owner Giuseppe was still working. Thank God, they were Argentinian at least we could get through to each other in Spanish. They showed me my room. And then I thought it was just me and them in a room far away. Looked neat and silent, but a bit cold. So I texted the owner if we could turn the heating up.
Until I found out that I have TWO immediate neighbours on my left and right, plus Giuseppe the owner lived there, too. On my left, - let me introduce the guy from Bangladesh who was fast asleep when my neighbours told me about him and only got up at 7pm to watch his football game until 10.30 pm. On my right, there is Mr. Shower - whom I waited for for 15 minutes to be done in the shared bathroom while already wearing my towel since I didn't hear him enter when I wanted to go. Giuseppe introduced himself when I got back from my first city walk and grocery shopping. He showed me where extra blankets were but my room is still pretty cold. Since it turned out that there was central heating which couldn't be turned up.
Well-well, after all I wanted a Camino for my soul. There you have it.
Silence fell at 10.30pm and I was pretty knocked out so I fell asleep fast. Until 5:40 am when my neighbour's alarm went off. Bangladesh didn't leave until 30 minutes later, in the meantime I made my morning coffee and my entry to the bathroom before it got occupied by Mr Shower, the Argentinians, Bangladesh or Giuseppe. When I got to my room with my coffee, Mr. Shower started to snore and Giuseppe got into a coughing fit that would last for an hour on end - no chance to fall back asleep. So I did a research into public swimming pools, where I could probably get warmed up in a sauna after a nice swim. When I heard Giuseppe had gone into the kitchen, I went after him to ask about public swimming pools. I found him smoking in the kitchen with the windows wide open, which I tried to endure until I found out he didn't know much about the pools since he was not a swimmer. Could only guess that one of them might be open, since the rest is closed for winter time. Not promising.
Honestly I got so much out of this trip already that I could just go home. Or not.
Fun trip - so far! Let's get some sightseeing done!
